We place a calibrated continuous monitor in the lowest livable area of the home and run it for a minimum 48 hours under closed-house conditions, per EPA protocol. The device logs radon concentration hour by hour, which is useful — a single integrated number hides spikes, but the hourly curve tells you whether levels are stable, weather-driven, or behavior-driven.
The EPA action threshold is 4.0 pCi/L. Levels between 2.0 and 4.0 still deserve a conversation — not because the house is unsafe, but because long-term radon exposure is the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. after smoking, and small reductions matter over decades. If mitigation is warranted, we don't install mitigation systems ourselves — we'll point you to qualified contractors and come back for post-mitigation testing to verify the system worked.
